Statesmen head to Philly to face #16 Hawks

The Hobart lacrosse team will head to Philadelphia for an Atlantic 10 showdown with No. 16 Saint Joseph's on Saturday, April 12. The opening faceoff at Sweeney Field is scheduled for noon.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • Hobart is seeking its first A10 win of the season following a 15-7 loss to No. 9 Richmond last week.
  • The Statesmen are 3-8 overall, 0-2 in conference play.
  • Hobart's greatest strength this season has been its faceoff unit. The Statesmen are fifth in the nation, winning 62.7% of the time.
  • Sophomore Mike Valent and graduate student Cole Emmanuel have combined to take more than 81% of the team's faceoffs this season. Valent has a .649 winning percentage and Emmanuel a .603 success rate.
  • Senior attackman Will Delano paces the offense with 27 points on 16 goals and 11 assists. Classmate Alex Rosa adds a team-high 19 goals.
  • In goal, Jackson Faiola has a .441 save percentage and a 14.67 GAA in nine starts.
 
ABOUT THE HAWKS
  • Saint Joseph's brings an 8-3 record (1-1 in A10) into the game. The Hawks are ranked 16th in the coaches poll and 17th in the media poll.
  • SJU is coming off a 15-3 win over St. Bonaventure last Saturday.
  • Saint Joseph's ranks in the top 10 in the nation in six categories: opponent clearing percentage (2nd, .727), scoring defense (3rd, 8.00 gpg), caused turnovers per game (5th, 10.82), clearing percentage (6th, .896), extra-man offense (6th, .500), and scoring margin (10th, +4.27).
  • First-year attackman Ben Dutton leads the offense with 33 goals and 39 points.
  • Graduate student attackman Richie LaCalandra sports a team-high 18 assists and is second with 38 points.
  • Senior defenseman Levi Verch paces the team with 66 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers. He's fourth in the nation in caused turnovers per game (2.27) and 19th in ground balls per game (6.00).
  • In goal, junior Tommy Gross has started all 10 games he's played this season. He sports a 7-3 record with a .571 save percentage and an 8.40 GAA. Gross is 10th in the country in GAA and 15th in save percentage.
 
SERIES SNAPSHOT
  • The game will be the 16th meeting between Hobart and Saint Joseph's.
  • The Hawks lead the series 10-5 overall, including a 5-4 record against the Statesmen on Sweeney Field.
