GOSHEN, N.Y.— The William Smith tennis team earned a dominant Liberty League victory this afternoon, defeating Bard 7-0 at the Match Point Tennis Complex. With the win, the Herons improve to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while the Raptors fall to 4-7 overall and 0-4 in the Liberty League
In doubles action, William Smith secured the point with wins in the top two spots. At No. 2, sophomore Teghan Torrey and senior Emma Johnston earned a 6-4 win over Lisa Krytoka and Jesse Radzik to move to 3-0 on the season in dual matches. At No. 1, senior Julia Pida and sophomore Mae Kellersman clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 victory over Paige Houghton and Maya Kelly. The third doubles match was not played after the point was decided.
The Herons continued their strong play in singles, sweeping all six matches played. At No. 1, first-year Grace Magna cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kelly. She is now 5-8 in dual match singles play this season. At No. 2, junior Marin Montagne defeated Houghton, 6-2, 6-1.
In the No. 3 spot, first-year Bethany Walker downed Victoria Bagatcholon in a pro set, 8-2. At No. 4, junior Maddy Buck earned her first dual match win of the season as she handled Isa Santos, 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 5, senior Mia Tetrault defeated Radzik 6-0, 6-2, to move to 3-0 in dual matches this season. Sophomore Lizzie Legg closed out the sweep as she defeated Krytoka 8-2 in the No. 6 spot. It was her first dual match win of the season.
