Herons face Saints, Bombers this weekend

The William Smith tennis team will be back in action this weekend, April 26-27, for a pair of matches to close out the regular season. The Herons host St. Lawrence on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the HWS Tennis Center. The following day, William Smith will be at Ithaca at 11 a.m.
 
William Smith enters the week with an 8-9 overall record and a 2-4 mark in conference play. The Herons are coming off a 5-2 win over RIT on Wednesday.
 
St. Lawrence is 15-4 this season with a 3-4 mark in conference play. The Saints are looking to rebound from a 4-3 loss to RPI last Saturday.
 
Ithaca is 5-11 overall with a 1-6 record in Liberty League play. The Bobmers lost to Cornell 7-0 on Thursday.
 
ABOUT THE HERONS
  • Sophomore Mae Kellersman leads the Herons in singles play with eight wins. She is 2-1 in the No. 2 spot.
  • Sophomore Grace Magna has seven wins. She plays in the middle of the lineup and is 3-0 at No. 3.
  • In doubles play, sophomore Grace Magna and junior Haley Levine lead William Smith with four wins in the No. 1 spot. They are 6-7 overall.
  • The pairings of senior Natalie Haythorn and junior Marin Montagne and Kellersman and Julia Pida are also 6-7 in doubles matches.
 
ABOUT THE SAINTS
  • Yvette Karera has a team-high 15 wins for the Saints. She is 5-1 at No. 4.
  • Angelica Aksdal-Jansen is 10-4, playing all 14 matches at No. 1.
  • The pairing of Eleanor McDermed and Molly Jespersen have a team-high 11 wins in doubles play, including a 6-7 record in the No. 1 spot.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • This will be the 36th meeting between William Smith and St. Lawrence.
  • The Saints hold a 26-9 advantage in the series.
  • Last time they met on April 27, 2024, St. Lawrence defeated William Smith 7-2 in Canton. Marin Montagne won in both singles and doubles for the Herons.
