GENEVA, N.Y. – The Hobart tennis team bounced back with a 5-2 win over regional foe, Rochester, this afternoon in Bristol Field House. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 5-7 on the season, while the Yellowjackets fall to 6-5 overall.
Hobart started strong in doubles play, sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point and grab the early lead. At No. 1, senior Nick Grosso and junior Nick Fischer defeated Ethan Samora and Josh Chu ,6-4, to move to 4-4 in dual matches this season.
In the No. 2 spot, seniors Rahul Vallabhajosula and Hyat Oyer secured their team-leading sixth dual match win of the season as they defeated Alan Wang and Surya Rajamani 6-4. Rounding out the sweep were seniors Troy Steiner and Jacob Linares in the No 3 spot. The duo edged out Krish Vennam and Ahaan Malhotra 7-5 to get back in the win column.
The Statesmen continued to impress in singles play, winning four of the six matches against the Yellowjackets. Oyer dominated in the No. 1 spot, defeating Vennam 6-4, 6-1, while Fischer followed suit at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Wang.
The match was clinched at the No. 3 matchup, when Grosso battled past Rahul Ravi in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Grosso is now 6-5 in dual matches this season. Linares added to the victory as he secured his first dual match win of the season at No. 5, defeating Chu 6-1, 6-2.
