Herons conclude homestand against Nazareth Thursday

The William Smith tennis team will be back in action Thursday, April 10, as it hosts Nazareth for a nonconference match. First serve between the Herons and the Golden Flyers is set for 4 p.m. in Bristol Field House. 

William Smith (4-8) looks to rebound from a conference loss to Union on Sunday. Nazareth, which brings a 9-10 record to Geneva, is coming off a 4-3 loss to the College of Saint Mary (Neb.) Friday. 

ABOUT THE HERONS

  • Sophomore Mae Kellersman leads the Herons in singles play with a 4-8 record in dual matches and is 3-7 from the No. 3 spot. First-year Bethany Walker is also 4-8 in dual matches and is 2-0 in the No. 4 spot. 
  • Senior Natalie Haythorn and sophomore Grace Magna are 3-8 in dual matches each. 
  • In doubles play, junior Haley Levine and sophomore Grace Magna are 4-6 in dual matches, including a 2-4 record from the No. 1 spot.
  • The pairing of Haythorn and junior Marin Montagne are 3-7 in dual matches and are 2-3 from the No. 2 position. 

ABOUT THE GOLDEN FLYERS

  • Ali Klee and Sarah Stone lead the team in singles play and are 9-9 in dual matches this season.
  • Catherine Zak is 9-10 from the No. 1 spot, while Kenna Ellis is 8-11 from the No. 2 spot in dual matches for Nazareth. 
  • Zak and Ellis have a team-leading 11-8 record in doubles play from the No. 1 spot.
  • The pairing of Anna Spencer and Victoria Cioni are 9-2 in the No. 3 spot. 

SERIES HISTORY

  • This will be the 27th meeting between William Smith and Nazareth. 
  • The Herons hold a 25-1 edge in the series, including a 17-1 advantage in Geneva.
  • Last time they met on March 27, 2024, William Smith defeated Nazareth 8-1. Juniors Maddy Buck and Montagne, as well as senior Julia Pida secured wins in both singles and doubles play.
