Veltman ’08 to be inducted into Halton Hills Sports Hall of Fame

Hobart lacrosse All-American attackman Daryl Veltman '08 will be inducted into the Halton Hills Sports Hall of Fame in Georgetown, Ontario, next month. He was the first Statesman to score 100 career goals at the Division I level and graduated with the program's Division I records for career goals and points.
 
The induction ceremony will be June 4 at the John Elliott Theatre in Georgetown.
 
Veltman was an original member of the Georgetown Gators minor lacrosse program. He played three years with the Halton Hills Bulldogs and was named the Ontario Junior B MVP. Veltman was the first overall pick of the Orangeville Northmen in the Ontario Junior A draft. He won a scoring title with the Northmen before heading to Hobart.
 
Veltman produced 109 goals and 53 assists for 162 points, starting all 52 games he played for the Statesmen. He graduated 15th on the program's overall goals and points lists.
 
Veltman was Hobart's leading goal scorer in each of his four seasons, beginning his collegiate career with an impressive 20-game goal scoring streak and a 21-game point streak. On his way to earning the 2005 ECAC Lacrosse League Rookie of the Year Award, he recorded 28 goals and 22 assists. Veltman erupted for a season-high eight points on four goals and four assists against Penn State.
 
Veltman was named second team All-ECAC in each of the next two seasons, registering 31 and 44 points, respectively. As a senior, he was named to the Tewaaraton Award preseason watch list. Veltman scored 26 goals to go with 11 assists on his way to earning first team All-ECAC recognition and USILA All-America honorable mention. He capped off his collegiate career by winning the Francis L. "Babe" Kraus '24 Memorial Award as Hobart's outstanding senior athlete.
 
The first overall draft pick in the 2008 National Lacrosse League Draft, Veltman played nine seasons in the indoor league. He scored 165 goals in 136 career games, playing in the NLL finals twice, once with Calgary and once with Buffalo.
 
In 2015, Veltman helped the Victoria Shamrocks win the Mann Cup, the Canadian box lacrosse senior championship.
 
Veltman lives in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, with his wife and two children.
