Hobart blanks Kean 2-0

MADISON, N.J.—The Hobart soccer team scored a goal in each half as it defeated Kean 2-0 in its opening game of the Drew/FDU Fall Classic at Drew's Ranger Stadium this evening. With the win, the Statesmen advance to the championship game on Sunday at 3 p.m.
 
Senior Brian Sheehan and sophomore Brady Leitner scored the goals for Hobart. Sophomore Jake Hans started in goal and made three saves as he earned his first collegiate win and shutout.
 
Jason Mast played all 90 minutes in goal for the Cougars. He made six saves.

  • The Statesmen broke through in the 34th minute. Sheehan's initial header went off the crossbar. The rebound fell to first-year Gabe Smith, but his show was swiped off the line by a Kean defender. Sheehan then poked the loose ball across the goal line. Smith was awarded an assist on the tally.
  • Leitner doubled Hobart's lead in the 72nd minute. He fired a shot from near the penalty spot into the lower right corner of the cage.
 
UP NEXT
After a day off, the tournament will switch from Ranger Stadium to FDU Florham's Robert T. Shields Field. The Statesmen will take on Drew in the championship game.
