Leitner’s strike lifts Hobart to Drew/FDU Fall Festival Title

MADISON, N.J.—Hobart sophomore forward Brady Leitner scored in the 50th minute as the Statesmen defeated Drew 1-0 in the championship game of the 2025 Drew/FDU Fall Festival this afternoon. Today's game was contested at FDU Florham's Robert T. Shields Field.
 
Leitner's goal was his second in as many games for the Statesmen. Senior Tommy Chyzowych played all 90 minutes in goal as he earned his first shutout of the season.
 
Donovan Friedhoff started in goal for the Rangers, he made five saves.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • Hobart is 2-0-0 on the season. This is the first time since 2021 that the Statesmen have started the year with back-to-back shutouts.
  • Drew falls to 1-1-0 on the year.

  • Hobart finished the game with a 13-9 edge in shots, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Statesmen had 10 corner kicks and the Rangers had six.

  • Hobart controlled the opening 45 minutes of the game, outshooting Drew 7-1.
  • Senior Quinn Phillips had the game's first opportunity, but he chipped a shot just over the crossbar.
  • In the 25th minute, Daniel Spataro ripped a shot on goal that was turned aside by a diving Friedhoff.
  • First-year Gabe Smith had the next two shots for Hobart. Both attempts were smothered by the goalie.
  • Friedhoff made one more stop in the first half, pouncing on a shot from Will Redman.
  • Leitner opened the scoring on the first shot of the second half. He collected a pass from junior La Zai Outerbridge, raced down the right wing and slipped a shot past Friedhoff from just outside the six-yard box.
  • In the 57th minute, Chyzowych stopped a shot from Turkcan Curak.
  • Junior Joe Pariano fired a shot towards the lower right corner of the cage that was turned aside by Friedhoff.
  • Drew's best chance to tie the game came in the 87th minute. Konstantinos Papanikolas had his shot smothered by a Statesmen defender.
 
UP NEXT
Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 6, when it welcomes St. John Fisher for its home opener. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
