CANTON, N.Y.—The Hobart tennis team opened its 2025-26 season at the St. Lawrence University Fall Classic this weekend, Sept. 13-14. Senior
Nick Fischer highlighted the action, winning A Flight Singles.
The Statesmen put together a strong opening weekend, finishing 16-10 in singles play and 6-6 in doubles matches.
A FLIGHT SINGLES
- Hobart dominated the top singles flight, posting a 7-1 record in the draw.
- Fischer went 4-0 on his way to capturing the crown. He opened the tournament, knocking off Ithaca's Gijs Fidler, 8-3. He followed that up with an 8-4 win in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he topped Rochester's Kavin Shukla 8-5.
- Fellow senior Jacob Linares also competed in the flight. He defeated Hamilton's Tarun Korwar 8-3 to open the tournament. In the quarterfinals, he won 8-5. In the semifinals, he bested St. Lawrence's Josh David, 8-4, setting up an all-Hobart final.
- In Sunday's final, Fischer emerged victorious 8-5 in a hard-fought battle.
B FLIGHT SINGLES
- First-years Michael Georgelis and Tejus Ranadive and junior Achilleas Kousaridis represented the statesmen in B Flight.
- Georgelis advanced to the semifinals, knocking off St. Lawrence's Charles Schepens 8-2 and Hamilton's Akshat Dhull 8-3. In the semifinals, he was edged by the eventual flight champion, Ithaca's Luis Crespo.
- Ranadive defeated RIT's Evan Ly 8-7 (7-3) in his collegiate debut but dropped his quarterfinal contest to Crespo.
- Kousaridis lost his opening match but then picked up a pair of wins in the consolation draw to finish the weekend 2-1.
C FLIGHT SINGLES
- Seniors Tarang Malhotra and Jose Martinez Barelles competed in the C Flight Draw.
- Malhotra was 1-1, winning his opening match.
- Martinez Barelles went 1-2 on the weekend, with his victory coming in the consolation draw.
D FLIGHT SINGLES
- First-year Tyler Snyder and sophomore Marco Olmos competed in D Flight.
- Snyder went 1-1, defeating Alain Uzelac 8-5 in his first collegiate match.
- Olmos was 1-2, picking up a win in the consolation draw.
DOUBLES
- Kousaridis and Linares went 2-1 as a duo, advancing to the semifinals of A Flight. They opened the tournament with an 8-7 win and then picked up an 8-5 victory in the quarterfinals. They were edged by the eventual flight champion in the semifinals.
- Georgelis and Barelles went 2-1 in B Flight doubles. They advanced to the semifinals with an 8-6 win in the first round and an 8-5 victory in the quarterfinals.
- Fischer and Ranadive went 2-2 on the weekend. They won twice in the consolation draw after losing their opening match.

Hobart will be back in action Oct. 3-5, when it heads to Saratoga Springs, New York, for the ITA Northeast Regional Championships.
