GENEVA, N.Y.—The 11th-ranked William Smith soccer team and Rochester battled to a scoreless draw in a non-conference contest on Cozzens Field this afternoon. With the draw, the Herons wrap up the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 4-1-2 overall record.

Antonia Goerke started in goal and made a career-high eight saves as she earned the shutout.
Eleni McGuire played all 90 minutes in goal for Rochester (3-0-3). It was her first collegiate.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rochester finished the game with a 16-6 edge in shots.
- Both teams had three corner kicks in the game.
- In addition to Georke's eight saves, Rochester hit the pipe four times.
MATCH MOMENTS
- Rochester's first chance of the game came in the third minute, Femke Laudy ripped a shot on goal that was smothered by Georke.
- Laudy had another chance in the ninth minute that Goerke got a hand and then proceeded to glance off the crossbar.
- In the 14th minute, Ava Schmidt had a shot blocked by a William Smith defender.
- Senior Julia Bragg had two chances in the final eight minutes, but her shots missed the goal posts.
- In the 65th minute, Delia McMullen had a shot from point-blank range. Goerke got her fingers on the shot and redirected it up off the crossbar. Rochester appeared to score on the rebound, but a player was offside.
- Senior Anna Nichols had a golden scoring opportunity in the 71st minute, but her shot was blocked by a Rochester defender that stuck her left foot out at the last minute.
- Senior Julia Accioly had a breakaway attempt in the 67th minute but fired a shot wide left.
- Natalie Santangelo had perhaps the best chance to break the deadlock when she broke in on Goerke one-on-one, but her chip shot glanced off the left goal post.

"Today was a gritty battle," Head Coach
Laura Burnett-Kurie '08 said. "We showed our fight and heart on the defensive side, and created a few good looks at goal. Overall, it was an exciting 90 minutes and we took another step forward in our progress and team identity. We walked off the field with confidence and we are hungry to take our game to the next level as we head into conference play."

William Smith will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, when it heads up to Rochester to take on RIT. The Liberty League opener is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
