GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep of St. Lawrence in a Liberty League contest in Bristol Gymnasium this afternoon. With the win, the Herons improve to 12-1 overall with a 2-0 mark in conference play. The Saints fall to 10-5 overall with a 1-1 mark in conference play.
William Smith dominated the stat sheet, finishing with 39 team kills. The Herons hit .377 as a team. They held the Saints to a .063 hitting percentage with 20 kills and just one ace.

Malya Sayre led William Smith with 14 kills and four aces while hitting .370. Fellow seniors

Hope Von Dohlen, sophomore
Emily Fulton and sophomore
Arielle Newsome had six kills each. Fulton (.385) had 10 digs and Newsome (.667) had a solo block.
Araiza Acum-Santos led St. Lawrence with nine kills and two blocks. Vanessa Latam had a .222 hitting percentage.
MATCH MOMENTS
- The Herons started fast, hitting .650 in the opening set. They put down 14 kills. Sayre had five kills on eight attempts in the opening set, while McCarthy had four kills on four swings. St. Lawrence hit .133 with eight kills in the first set. William Smith used an 8-1 run in the middle of the set to pull away from the Saints.
- The Herons had nine kills in the second set while hitting .208. St. Lawrence hit -.182 with a match low five kills. Newsome and Fulton led the Herons with three kills each in the middle set.
- William Smith had 16 kills and hit .333 in the third set. Sayre led the way with eight kills. The Saints had seven kills while hitting .185. First-year Makenzie Dvorznak closed out the match with her second career ace that was part of a 5-1 run for the Herons.
MATCH STATS
- The Herons continued to impress at the service line and combined for 10 aces as a team. Sayre led the way with four and Cydney Fernandez and Delainy Williams had two each. With two aces in the first set, Sayre became the first Heron to record 150 career aces.
- Fulton and sophomore Kali Vanderhoof had 10 digs each while Marin Montagne added six. Fernandez and Sayre had five each.
- Delainy Williams had all 35 of William Smith's assists in the match.

Derryk Williams said. "From start to finish, we executed at a super high level and did a great job with mental recovery. Delainy distributed the ball at a really high level and the hitters took care of the ball flawlessly. We are back at it with a really big week coming up so I am excited to see how we continue that moving forward!"
