GENEVA, N.Y.—The top-ranked Hobart hockey team cruised to an 8-1 win over Morrisville in a SUNYAC game at The Cooler this evening. The victory extended the Statesmen's winning streak to 20 games dating back to last season.
Twelve different skaters recorded at least one point tonight for Hobart, including four players who had three points. Junior
Brandon Sacchetti and
Easton Ryan had two goals each. Senior
Mavrick Goyer started in goal and made 18 saves as he earned his fifth victory of the season.
Will Jones had the goal for Morrisville. Will Goumas started in goal and made a career-high 53 saves for the Mustangs.
STREAKING
- In addition to extending its winning streak to 20 games, Hobart extended its unbeaten streak to 27 games.
- With tonight's victory, Hobart became just the second team in NCAA hockey history to win 60 straight games on its home ice.
MILESTONE
- Tonight's win number 100 for the Class of 2026 is 100-5-2 during their time in Geneva. Only last year's graduating class won more games (106).
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hobart finished the game with a 61-17 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Statesmen were 1-for-4 on the power play and Morrisville was 1-for-2 with the man advantage.
MATCH MOMENTS
- Hobart completely dominated the opening period, finishing the frame with a 25-1 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Statesmen opened the scoring 84 seconds into the contest when Sacchetti scored his second goal of the season. He collected a pass from Conor Lally and one-timed a shot past Goumas. Bauer Morrissey also had an assist on the goal.
- Ryan made it 2-0 at the 16:56 mark of the first period. He blasted a shot from the right faceoff circle into the upper left corner of the cage.
- The Statesmen extended their lead at the 4:01 mark of the second period. Adam Mendelson collected a pass from Kahlil Fontana and slipped a backhanded shot into the back of the net. It was his third goal of the season. Arvega Hovsepyan also had an assist on the goal.
- Sacchetti notched his third goal of the season with just under five minutes remaining in the middle stanza. He dug the puck out of a scrum, skated to the slot and wired a shot under the crossbar.
- Chris Duclair made it 5-0 at the 19:09 mark of the second period. He fired a shot from the right faceoff circle past Goumas for his fifth goal of the season. The power-play goal was assisted by Calum Chau and Nick Dimatos.
- Fontana gave Hobart a six-goal lead at the 6:15 mark of the final stanza with his 12th goal of the season. He faked a shot at the left faceoff circle, deked around a defender, waited for the goalie to go down and tucked a shot just past his left leg. The tally was assisted by Hovsepyan and Lally.
- Morrisville broke up the shutout bid at the 12:17 mark of the third period with a 5-on-3 power-play goal. He snapped a shot from the right faceoff circle past Goyer for his second goal of the season. Tanner Dietz and Connor Santay were awarded assists on the goal.
- Hovsepyan added his name to the scoring column with just under four minutes remaining. He collected a rebound in the slot and flipped a shot past Goumas. His seventh goal of the season was assisted by Fontana and Lally.
- Ryan rounded out the scoring 17 seconds later. He snapped home a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle. It was his 10th goal of the season. Mendelson and Tristan Fasig notched assists on the goal.
FOR THE RECORD
- Hobart is now 14-0-0 overall this season and 7-0-0 in SUNYAC play. This is the third time in the last four years that the Statesmen won their first 14 games of the season.
- Morrisville is now 2-11-2 on the year with a 1-5-2 mark in SUNYAC play.
