#1 Hobart extends streak, blanks Fredonia 7-0

Taylor earns 450th career win

FREDONIA, N.Y.—Senior Tanner Daniels and junior Chris Duclair each scored two goals as the top-ranked Hobart Hockey team knocked off Fredonia 7-0 in a SUNYAC contest at Steele Hall this evening. With the win, the Statesmen extended their winning streak to 21 games.
 
Daniels and Duclair also had an assist, finishing the game with three points each. Junior Brandon Sacchetti also had three points, finishing the game with three assists. Sophomore Connor Shibley earned his first collegiate win, making 17 saves in his first career start.
 
Charles-Anthony Barbeau started in goal. He made 38 saves in just over 49 minutes in goal. Jameson Kaine played the final 10 minutes in goal and made eight saves.
 
STREAKING
  • In addition to extending its winning streak, Hobart extended its unbeaten streak to 28 games.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hobart finished the game with a 53-17 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Statesmen were 2-for-3 on the power play and Fredonia was 0-for-1 with the man advantage.
 
GAME SUMMARY
  • Hobart opened the scoring at the 6:27 mark of the first period. Duclair collected a drop pass from Bauer Swift, deked around a defender and wristed a shot past Barbeau. Sacchetti also had an assist on Duclair's sixth goal of the season.
  • Two minutes later, Fontana notched his team-leading 13th goal of the season. He collected a rebound in the slot and chipped a shot past the goalie. Daniels was awarded an assist on the goal.
  • Daniels gave Hobart a 3-0 lead with just under five minutes remaining in the opening period. He redirected a shot from Bauer Morrissey past Anthony. The power-play goal was his seventh goal of the season.
  • Belov notched his third goal of the season at the 7:27 mark of the second period. Standing in front of the goal, he stuffed home the power-play goal. Dominic Schimizzi and Bauer Morrissey were awarded assists on the goal.
  • Daniels notched his second goal of the game at the 12:04 mark of the second. He one-timed a shot from the right faceoff circle past Barbeau. His eighth goal of the season was assisted by Tamas Toth and Arvega Hovsepyan.
  • Duclair and Connor Lally added insurance goals in the third period.
  • At the 4:31 mark of the third period, Duclair wired a shot from the high slot under the crossbar. His seventh goal of the season was assisted by Sacchetti and Conor Lally.
  • Five minutes later, Lally rounded out the scoring. He blasted home a one-timer from the right faceoff circle for his eighth goal of the season. Duclair and Sacchetti had assists on the goal.
 
MILESTONE WATCH
  • Senior Kahlil Fontana became the 30th player in program history to play in his 100th career game. He is the second Statesman to hit that mark this season, joining his linemate Tanner Daniels, who has now played in 103 career games.
  • Today's victory was the 450th of Head Coach Mark Taylor's career. He is the 18th Division III Men's hockey coach to record 450 wins.
 
UP NEXT
Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 17, when it takes on Buffalo State. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Buffalo.
