QUEENSBURY, N.Y.—The William Smith Alpine skiing team opened its 2026 season over the weekend as it competed in week one of USCSA action on West Mountain. The Herons finished second of nine teams in the giant slalom and second of eight teams in the slalom to secure second place in the Mideast Conference standings.
In Saturday's giant slalom race, which included 55 racers, William Smith produced five top 20 finishers, including the first-place finisher, first-year
Aspen Mcauley. Mcauley opened her collegiate career with a dominant performance, crossing the finish line at 2:10.18 to secure first place by over four seconds. Classmate
Delaney Remington also had an impressive collegiate debut, finishing 12th with a time of 2:25.33. Senior
Julia Bragg rounded out the top three Heron finishers in 13th place after stopping the clock at 2:25.55. Sophomore
Mia Crivelli added a 16th place finish with a time of 2:28.94, while first-year
Ludovica Corte came in at 2:31.51 to secure 20th place.
In Sunday's slalom race, five Herons finished in the top 20 to help William Smith secure second place. Mcauley had another impressive performance, finishing first with a time of 1:45.21. Senior
Kate Broderick added a sixth-place finish after crossing the finish line at 1:55.17, while Crivelli secured ninth place with a time of 1:59.46. Remington followed closely behind in 11th with a time of 2:02.69, while junior
Emily Cain secured 17th overall after stopping the clock at 2:10.21.

The Herons will be back in action next weekend for week two of USCSA action. The weekend will kick off with the giant slalom on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 9 a.m. on Greek Peak Mountain. Sunday's slalom races will be the following day at 9 a.m. on Greek Peak Mountain.
