Daniels records 100th point, #1 Hobart soars past Plattsburgh 7-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—Hobart senior forward Tanner Daniels recorded a game-high three-points as the top-ranked Hobart hockey team cruised to a 7-0 victory in a SUNYAC game at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena this evening. With the three points, Daniels became the 13th player in program history to record 100 career points.
 
Daniels had a goal and two assists in the victory. Sophomores Easton Ryan and Arvega Hovsepyan had two goals each. Senior Domnic Schimizzi and sophomore Tamas Toth also had goals in the game. Senior Damon Beaver started in goal and stopped all 22 shots he faced as he earned the shutout.
 
Brady Spry started in goal for Plattsburgh and made 31 saves in 40 minutes. Beau Lane played the third period and made 15 saves.
 
STREAKING
  • With today's win, the Statesmen have now won 23 straight games.
  • Hobart also extended its unbeaten streak to 30 games.
  • The Statesmen have won 11 straight road contests.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • Hobart is now 17-0-0 this season and 10-0-0 in SUNYAC play. The 17 wins to start the season match the best start to a year in program history.
  • Plattsburgh is 8-9-0 with a 4-6-0 mark in conference play.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hobart finished the game with a 53-22 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Hobart was 1-for-5 on the power play and Plattsburgh was 0-for-1 with the extra attacker.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • The Statesmen jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period and never looked back.
  • Ryan opened the scoring at the 11:13 mark of the opening frame. He one-timed a pass from sophomore Adam Mendelson past Spry. Sophomore Josh Doolan also had an assist on Ryan's 12th goal of the season.
  • Two minutes later, Daniels notched his ninth goal of the season. He broke into the offensive zone with senior Kahlil Fontana on a two-on-one. Daniels collected a pass and snapped a shot past the Plattsburgh goalie for his 100th career point. First-year Tommy McDonough also had an assist on the goal.
  •  Arvega Hovsepyan made it a three-goal game at the 16:37 mark of the opening frame. After Daniels forced a turnover, he wristed a shot past Spry for his eighth goal of the year.
  • Three minutes into the second period, Toth intercepted a clearing pass and fired a shot from the high slot into the back of the net. His fourth goal of the year was an unassisted tally.
  • Just past the midway point of regulation, Ryan notched his 13th goal of the season. His power-play goal was assisted by Mendelson and senior Tristan Fasig.
  • Hobart smothered Plattsburgh in the middle stanza, outshooting the Cardinals 21-5.
  • The Statesmen put the game out of reach with two goals 39 seconds apart early in the third period.
  • Senior Dominic Schimizzi collected a rebound in front of the cage and poked the loose puck past Lane. His third goal of the year was assisted by Ignat Belov and Conor Lally.
  • Hovsepyan rounded out the scoring with his ninth goal of the year. Daniels had an assist on the goal.
 
CLIMBING THE LADDER
  • With today's shutout, senior Damon Beaver now has 23 for his career. He is second on the NCAA Division III all-time list.
  • It was Hobart's sixth shutout of the season, tied for fourth on Hobart's single-season list.
  • With 102 career points, Daniels is tied for 10th on the all-time list with Matt Sibley '96 and John Shane '83.
 
UP NEXT
Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 24, when it heads to Saratoga Springs, New York, to take on Skidmore. Facoeff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
