Moesch erupts for career-high 30

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart junior Alex Moesch recorded his first career double-double this afternoon, erupting for a career-high 30 points and grabbing a career-high 10 rebounds. Unfortunately, visiting Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute connected on some timely 3-pointers late in the second half and held off the Statesmen for a 66-62 Liberty League win.
 
MOESCH'S BIG GAME
  • It's the most points by a Statesman since Jackson Meschanic '23 scored 30 against Vassar on Feb. 21, 2023.
  • 15 – double digit scoring efforts this season for Moesch.
  • 10 - career-high field goals made on 17 attempts.
  • 4 - season-high for 3-pointers made on seven attempts.
  • 4 – matches season-high for assists.

Classmate Dorian Paki also logged a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds. Paki and Moesch shared game-high honors on the glass, leading Hobart to a 39-31 rebounding edge. Sophomore Allen Mordi added 11 points and six boards. Senior Gabriel Bergeron posted a stat line of seven points, four rebounds, and a game-high five assists.
 
RPI had two players in double figures. Andrew Deppe scored a team-high 18 points, while Billy Feeks added 14 points. Kellen Driscoll, Yechiel Stewart and PJ Scalisi each finished with nine points.
 
GAME RECAP
First Half: RPI 27, Hobart 25
  • RPI scored the first seven points of the game and never trailed in the opening 20 minutes.
  • Hobart cut the Engineers' lead to two five times in the first half, but couldn't forge a tie or take the lead.
  • The Statesmen still trailed by seven three minutes left in the half, but scored the final five points to go into the break down by just two.
  • Scalisi scored all nine of his points in the first half, leading all scorers.
  • Moesch led Hobart with eight points.
 
Second Half: RPI 66, Hobart 62
  • Moesch opened the second half scoring with a triple that gave the Statesmen their first lead.
  • Through the first 12 minutes of the half, there were six lead changes and five ties. In that time frame, neither team led by more than four points.
  • Moesch tied the game for the final time with a pull-up jumper that tied the game at 44 with under eight minutes left.
  • Over the next two minutes, neither team produced a point.
  • The Engineers' offense got back in gear first when Deppe drained a 3-pointer. That was followed by a pair of triples by Feeks, while in the same two-minute span, Hobart's only points came at the free throw line.
  • By the 1:45 mark, RPI's lead had grown to eight points, but Hobart didn't go away quietly.
  • The Statesmen got within three with 9.8 seconds left and cut their deficit to two with three seconds remaining.
  • The Engineers were able to hold on thanks to a 9-for-10 effort at the free throw line in the final minute.
 
KEY STATS
  • RPI was +11 in turnover margin, which led to a 19-3 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • Despite being out rebounded, the Engineers had a 14-3 edge in second chance points.
  • RPI struggled to find its range beyond the arc, missing 25 of its first 32 3-point attempts, before Deppe and Feeks locked in late.
  • The Engineers came into the game second in the Liberty League in team field goal percentage, but the Statesmen held them to their second worst shooting percentage of the season (.323).
