Game Recap: Hobart Basketball | | Ken DeBolt

Nedd’s 24 points lead Hobart at RIT

HENRIETTA, N.Y.—Hobart sophomore Monty Nedd led four Statesmen in double figures, scoring a game-high 24 points, but Rochester Institute of Technology eked out an 81-80 Liberty League win in men's basketball action tonight.

Hobart also got double digit games from junior Alex Moesch, who sank four 3-pointers on his way to a 19-point game, sophomore Allen Mordi, who added 17 points and a game-high nine rebounds, and junior Dorian Paki, who scored 11 points, grabbed five boards and blocked two shots.

Nedd was 5-of-13 from the floor, but made up for it with a 14-of-20 effort at the free throw line. It's the most free throws made by a Statesman since Colin Dougherty '19 made 14 against Fisher on Dec. 3, 2016. Nedd's 20 attempts are the more free throws by a Statesman since Joe Corbett '03 had 25 attempts against RPI on Feb. 9, 2001.

The Tigers had four players with 12 or more points, led by Zac Ditzel's 15 points. Nigel Pierman scored 14 points, while Brody Brown and Josiah Turner each chipped in 12 points.

GAME RECAP
First Half: Hobart 37, RIT 33
  • The first 20 minutes was tightly contested with neither team leading by more than six points.
  • Ditzel drove to the basket for a layup that tied the game at 33, but Nedd and Moesch netted back-to-back buckets to send Hobart into the break up four.
  • The teams had similar shooting performances from the floor, but the Statesmen made 10 free throws to none for the Tigers.

Second Half: RIT 81, Hobart 80
  • Eight minutes into the second half, Hobart led 49-47, but RIT seized the lead with a 14-1 run over the next four minutes.
  • The Statesmen trailed by 10 as the game clock wound under two minutes to play.
  • Hobart battled to the very end, shooting 7-of-12 from the floor down the stretch.
  • RIT (5-13, 2-9) didn't attempt another shot from the field, instead scoring its final 11 points at the free throw line.
  • An old fashion 3-point play by Mordi with 3 seconds left cut the Tigers' lead to 79-77.
  • Hobart immediately fouled and put Brown on the line, who finished his scoring with a pair of makes at the line.
  • First-year Elvis Lloyd hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to complete the night's scoring.

UP NEXT
  • The Statesmen (11-7, 5-6) continue their four-game road trip at Skidmore, tipping off at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31.
