Two members of the William Smith lacrosse team were named to the 2026 USA Lacrosse Magazine Division III Preseason All-America teams today.

Janey Sypeck earned second team praise, while senior
Lily Kuhn earned honorable mention.

Sypeck and Kuhn started all 19 games on defense for the Herons a season ago. William Smith finished the year 20th in the nation in scoring defense (7.37). Sypeck and Kuhn also played key roles the Herons' clearing game, which was 12th in the nation in clearing percentage (.885).

A third team USA Lacrosse Magazine Third Team All-American in 2025, Sypeck had 21 caused turnovers and 24 ground balls last year. She recorded four ground balls and four caused turnovers in the Liberty League semifinals. Sypeck has played in 42 career games, starting 38. She has 53 caused turnovers and 54 ground balls. She was also a preseason All-American last year.

Kuhn finished 2025 second on the team with 24 caused turnovers and 28 ground balls. She logged a career-high five caused turnovers and four ground balls in a game against Clarkson. Kuhn has played in 55 career games, starting 31. She has 42 caused turnovers and 49 ground balls.

William Smith, which was ranked seventh in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Poll, begins its 2026 campaign on Feb. 25 when it welcomes Geneseo to Geneva. The opening draw is scheduled for 5 p.m.
