GENEVA, N.Y.—The top-ranked Hobart hockey team jumped out to a 2-0 lead and never looked back as it knocked off Canton 5-1 in a SUNYAC contest at The Cooler this evening. With the win, the Statesmen improved to 19-0-0 this season with a 12-0-0 mark in conference play.
Senior forward
Kahlil Fontana (1g, 2a) led Hobart with three points. His linemates, senior
Tanner Daniels (1g, 1a) and sophomore
Arvega Hovsepyan (2a), also had multi-point games. Senior
Damon Beaver started in goal and made a season-high 28 saves in the victory.
Logan Kelly scored for the Roos (7-10-1, 3-7-1). Trey Miller played all 60 minutes in goal and made 43 saves.
STREAKING
- With tonight's victory, Hobart extended its winning streak to 25 games and its unbeaten streak to 32 games.
- The Statesmen have won 61 straight games on home ice.

- Hobart finished the game with a 48-29 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Statesmen were 0-for-2 on the power play and Canton was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Hobart opened the scoring 74 seconds into the game. Sophomore Tamas Toth picked up his own rebound and slipped a shot past Miller for his fifth goal of the season. Sophomore Connor Elliott and junior Chris Duclair had assists on the goal.
- Just over four minutes later, Fontana notched his team-leading 15th goal of the season. He one-timed a centering pass from Hovsepyan past the Canton goalie.
- Canton broke up the shutout bid at the 14:17 mark of the second period. Kelly picked up a rebound in the left faceoff circle and snuck a shot past Beaver. His eighth goal of the season was assisted by Spencer Sasenbury.
- Daniels extended Hobart's lead to 3-1 with his 10th goal of the season. He picked up his own rebound and wristed a shot past Miller. Hovsepyan and Fontana had assists on the goal.
- Nine minutes into the third period, junior Conor Lally made it 4-1 with his 10th goal of the season. He snapped a shot from the right faceoff circle into the upper right corner of the cage. Daniels and Fontana had assists on the tally.
- Sophomore Adam Mendelson tacked on an insurance goal at the 16:12 mark of the third period. His fourth goal of the season was assisted by senior Ignat Belov.

Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 31, when it welcomes Potsdam to The Cooler. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
