GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart senior forward
Kahlil Fontana scored twice in the first period as the top-ranked Statesmen hockey team skated to a 5-2 victory over Cortland in a SUNYAC game at The Cooler this evening.

Damon Beaver made 21 saves as he earned his 10th victory of the season.
Garrett Kreiger led Cortland, recording a goal and an assist in the loss. Shane Shelest started in goal and made 28 saves.
STREAKING
- With tonight's win, Hobart picked up its 19th straight victory and extended its unbeaten streak to 26 games.
- The Statesmen also extended their home winning streak to 59 games.

- Hobart is now 13-0-0 overall this season with a 6-0-0 mark in SUNYAC play.
- Cortland falls to 7-6-1 overall with a 4-2-1 mark in conference play.

- Hobart finished the game with a 33-23 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Statesmen were 1-for-2 on the power play and Cortland was 0-for-4 with the extra skater.
MATCH MOMENTS
- Hobart opened the scoring at the 10:15 mark of the first period. Standing in the right faceoff circle, Fontana collected a pass from Daniels and ripped a shot past Shelest. Doolan also had an assist on the goal.
- Two minutes later, Fontana pocketed his 11th goal of the season. He collected a breakout pass from sophomore Arvega Hovsepyan, deked around the goalie and wristed a shot into the back of the net.
- Krieger broke up the shutout bid 84 seconds into the second period. He won a faceoff, crashed the net and wristed a shot past Beaver. It was his fifth goal of the season.
- Hobart put the game out of reach with two late second-period goals.
- Daniels made it 3-1 with his sixth goal of the season. He broke up a clearing attempt and snapped a shot from the slot over Shelest. The power-play goal was an unassisted tally.
- Just under two minutes later, sophomore Tamas Toth wired a shot from the high slot past Shelest. His third goal of the season was assisted by junior Chris Duclair and Doolan.
- Cortland made it a 4-2 game after 40 minutes when Morley Phillips scored his third goal of the season. He crashed the net and redirected a pass from Justin Legaut past Beaver. Krieger had the secondary assist on the goal.
- Hobart's defense came up big in the third period, killing off four Cortland power plays, including a nearly two-minute 4-on-3 advantage early in the frame. Beaver made four key saves during the sequence that kept it a two-goal game. Sophomore Calum Chau also had a key blocked shot.
- Easton Ryan iced the game with an empty-net goal with just under two minutes remaining in regulation. He collected a pass from Chau and fired the puck into the empty cage. Ryan's eighth goal of the season was also assisted by Tristan Fasig.

Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 10, when it welcomes Morrisville to The Cooler. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
