Three members of the William Smith soccer team were recognized by the Liberty League office this afternoon. Junior Grace Metzler was named the Offensive Performer of the Week and first-year Grace Sudbay was tabbed the Rookie of the Week. In addition, senior midfielder Miranda DeMura was placed on the weekly honor roll.

The trio guided the Herons to a 2-0-0 week in Liberty League play, extending their overall win streak to five games. On Tuesday, William Smith beat RIT 1-0. The Herons followed that up with a 2-1 victory over Skidmore on Saturday.

Metzler led the Herons with two goals. Against the Tigers, she scored the game-winning goal in the 18th minute. On Saturday against the Thoroughbreds, Metzler scored the Herons' first goal of the game. She has played in 10 games this season, recording 10 points on four goals and two assists.

Sudbay was named the rookie of the week for the second time this season. A native of Merrimac, Massachusetts, she had a goal and an assist last week. Sudbay set up Metzler's game-winning goal against RIT. She then scored the game-winning goal against Skidmore. Sudbay has played all 12 games this season, starting 11. She has eight points on three goals and two assists.

DeMura and the William Smith defense limited RIT and Skidmore to a combined 20 shots, including just nine on goal. She played lights-out defense on both ends of the field, helping the Herons' defense pitch their sixth shutout of the season against the Tigers. DeMura has started all 11 games she's played in this season.

William Smith (9-3-0, 5-0-0) will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 17, when it welcomes ninth-ranked Vassar to Cozzens Field. The key Liberty League contest is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
