 THE FIRST HALF

  • Hobart broke the deadlock on its first shot of the game. Sewell collected a bouncing ball in the box and fired a shot off the right goalpost the net. Junior Weldon Arner and senior Quinn Phillips had assists on the goal.
  • In the 20th minute, Phillips had a shot blocked by a Cortland defender.

SECOND HALF
  • Just over a minute into the second half, sophomore Tommy Broderick chipped a shot just over the crossbar.
  • Cortland then seized control of the game, pressuring the Statesmen in the offensive half of the field. In the 49th minute, Chimelu Blandin's free kick attempt was stopped by Hans.
  • As the Red Dragons continued to pressure offensively, a Statesman was shown a red card, forcing Hobart to play the last 30 minutes of the match down a player.
  • Blandin again took advantage of the free kick, forcing Hans to make a key stop.  Rivera pounced on the rebound and appeared to tie the game, but Hans kept the ball out of the net by a few inches.
  • In the 73rd minute, Hans made his best save of the game. Aidan Miller fired a shot on goal from 30 yards out. Hans dove to his left and punched the ball over the crossbar.
  • Six minutes later, Miller had a second chance off a corner kick, but his shot was blocked by a defender.
  • On the ensuing counterattack, a Cortland defender hauled down a Hobart player and was shown a red card, forcing both teams to play down a player for the final 12 minutes of regulation.
  • Junior Griffin Coutts stepped up and fired a shot wide left off the free kick.
  • The Red Dragons had one last chance in the 82nd minute, but Blandin's shot was blocked by a defender.
