MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—The top-ranked Hobart hockey team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Morrisville in a SUNYAC contest at the Morrisville IcePlex this evening. The nine goals in tonight's game were the most by the Statesmen this season.
Nine different Statesmen scored a goal in the victory. Junior
Bauer Morrissey led the way for the Statesmen, recording a goal and two assists. Six other Statesmen also had multi-point games. Senior
Mavrick Goyer went the distance in goal and made 15 saves as he earned his fourth shutout of the season.
Chad Lowe played all 60 minutes in goal for the Mustangs. He made a career-high 76 saves.
STREAKING
- With tonight's win, Hobart extended its winning streak to 28 games and its unbeaten streak to 35 games.
- Sophomore Arvega Hovsepyan had two assists in tonight's game. This is the fourth straight game he's recorded at least two assists in a game.
FOR THE RECORD
- Hobart is now 22-0-0 on the season with a 15-0-0 mark in conference play. The Statesmen clinched the SUNYAC regular season title and will have home-ice advantage for the conference tournament.
- Morrisville falls to 2-18-3 with a 1-12-3 mark in the SUNYAC.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Hobart wasted little time taking a 1-0 lead. Brandon Sacchetti notched his fourth goal of the season at the 2:43 mark of the first period. He collected a pass from Tamas Toth and slipped a shot past Lowe.
- Ten minutes later, Calum Chau gave the Statesmen a 2-0 lead. His first goal of the season was assisted by Sacchetti.
- The Statesmen took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to Morrissey's power-play goal. His fourth goal of the season was assisted by senior Kahlil Fontana and Hovsepyan.
- Conor Lally gave the Statesmen a four-goal lead with his 11th goal of the season. His short-handed tally was assisted by senior Ignat Belov. The goal came while the Statesmen were killing a five-minute penalty. In fact, the Statesmen had more shots on the penalty kill (3) than Morrisville had on the power-play (1).
- Senior Tanner Daniels tacked on a power-play goal at the 11:59 mark of the first period. His 14th goal of the season was assisted by Morrissey and Hovsepyan.
- The Statesmen tacked on four goals in the third period, including two more power-play goals.
- Sophomore Josh Doolan started the flurry with his third goal of the season. Adam Mendelson and Easton Ryan had assists on the goal.
- Mendelson and Belov scored power-play goals 46 seconds apart in the middle of the frame to give Hobart an 8-0 lead. Mendelson's goal was assisted by Ryan and Bauer Swift and Belov's goal was assisted by Morrissey.
- Junior Chris Duclair rounded out the scoring with his eighth goal of the season. Chau had an assist on the goal.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hobart finished the game with an 85-15 advantage in shots on goal. Hobart's 85 shots on goal are second on Hobart's single-game list, trailing only the 102 the Statesmen took against Curry in a four overtime game.
- Hobart 4-for-7 on the power play and the Mustangs were 0-for-2 with the man advantage. The four power-play goals are third on the single-game list.
CLIMBING THE LADDER
- With two assists in tonight's game, Hovsepyan now has 26 this season. That moves him into a tie for eighth on Hobart's single-season list with Phil McCarthy '89.
- Goyer's fourth shutout of the season jumped him into a tie for sixth on Hobart's single-season list. The Statesmen's nine shutouts this season are the third most in program history.
- Goyer's 19 career shutouts are tied for sixth in NCAA Division III history.
- With a goal tonight, Daniels now has 110 career points.
