The Hobart lacrosse team will complete a three-game road trip at No. 3/No. 5 Cornell on Tuesday, Feb. 24. The 143rd edition of the most contested rivalry in college lacrosse is set to get underway at 5 p.m. at Schoellkopf Field.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN (1-2)

Hobart's special teams have played well through three games. The Statesmen are fourth in the nation in man-down defense, allowing opponents to convert just one of 12 extra-man opportunities. At the other end of the field, Hobart is fifth in the nation when it has the man advantage, scoring on 5-of-8 opportunities (.625).

The Statesmen have also impressed on the ride. Hobart is second in the nation in opponent clearing percentage (.653).

Colman Craft and
Michael Johnson have grabbed the spotlight. Craft, a defenseman from Pittsburgh, is sixth in the country in caused turnovers, averaging 3.0 per game. Johnson, from Berwyn, Pennsylvania, has started all three games in goal and ranks among the nation's best in save percentage (9th, .585), GAA (15th, 9.03) and saves per game (13th, 12.67).

David Peterkin and sophomore
Daniel Cano are tied for the team lead with eight points apiece. Cano has scored a team-leading six goals, while Peterkin paces the Statesmen with five assists.

SCOUTING THE BIG RED (2-0)

The defending national champions are off to a perfect start, posting road wins at UAlbany 11-10 and No. 17/No. 16 Denver 13-9. The Big Red lead the nation in faceoff winning percentage (.720) and are fifth in assists per game (9.0).

Junior Ryan Goldstein quarterbacks the offense with 12 points on four goals and eight assists. He's first in the nation in assists per game (4.0) and third in points per game (6.0). Classmate Willem Firth is close behind with 10 points (6g,4a).

Senior Jack Cascadden is dominating at the X, winning 70.5% of his faceoffs (31-of-44), and boasts a team-high 12 ground balls while contributing a goal and an assist to the offense.

Junior goalie Matthew Tully has started both games this season, bring a .548 save percentage and a 9.50 GAA into the contest.

Hobart and Cornell first met in lacrosse on May 5, 1898, with the Statesmen earning a 2-1 victory. Few rivalries in college lacrosse are older and none have been played more times over the years. The Big Red lead the series 91-47-4. The Statesmen are looking for their first win over Cornell since 2017 when they scored a 16-8 win in Geneva.
