The William Smith tennis team will open its spring season this Saturday, Feb. 28, as it welcomes SUNY Oneonta to Bristol Field House for a nonconference match. First serve between the Herons and the Red Dragons is set for 3 p.m.
Saturday, the Herons will be supporting Morgan's Message, an organization dedicated to eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community. The Morgan's Message Club will have a table set up with goodies for fans.
ABOUT THE HERONS:
- In the fall, William Smith competed in the annual Mary Hosking Invitational, the ITA Northeast Regional Championships, and the Hamilton Invitational.
- Senior Haley Levine and junior Mae Kellersman lead the Herons in singles play with overall records of 3-5 and 3-4, respectively. Levine gathered her first two wins of the season in the A consolation bracket at the Mary Hosking Invitational. Kellersman picked up two wins at Hamilton.
- First-year Kaitlyn Hardy also posted a 3-2 record in the fall, picking up her first two collegiate wins at the Mary Hosking Invitational.
- Hardy and sophomore Mia Jacobs went 2-1 in doubles play in the fall, securing two wins at the Mary Hosking Invitational.
ABOUT THE RED DRAGONS:
- Oneonta enters the weekend with a 5-9 overall record and is coming off a 7-0 loss to St. Lawrence on Feb. 15.
- Taylor Plue leads the Red Dragons in singles play with a 6-3 record in the No. 3 spot.
- Annika Cripe is 6-5 at No. 2.
- In doubles play, Cripe and Haley Peck lead the Red Dragons with a 7-5 record in the No. 1 spot.
- Plue and Dakota Jimenez have compiled a 5-3 record in the No. 2.
SERIES SNAPSHOT:
- William Smith has won all 16 previous meetings with Oneonta, including 7-0 win over the Red Dragons last season. The Herons are 13-0 in Geneva against Oneonta.
