GENEVA, N.Y. – The Hobart tennis team opened its spring season with a 7-0 win over SUNY Oneonta this afternoon in Bristol Field House. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 1-0 on the season, while the Red Dragons fall to 5-5 overall.
Hobart took control in doubles play, winning all three matches in straight sets to secure the doubles point. Seniors
Nick Fischer and
Aidan Staunton secured their first win as partners this season in the No. 1 spot as they defeated Chris Chippari and William Schmid 6-1. Junior
Achilleas Kousaridis and first-year
Everett Reid also secured their first win as doubles partners as they defeated Jaden Ritterman and Peter Pitaleff 6-2 in the No. 2 spot.
In the No. 3 doubles spot, first-year
Tejus Ranadive and senior
Jose Martinez Barelles defeated Ryan Geller and Seth Cheung 6-0 to help secure the doubles point.
The Statesmen continued to shine in singles play, sweeping all six matches in straight sets. Fischer continued his dominance as he defeated Chippari 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 position. Kousaridis added a win in the No. 2 spot as he defeated Schmid 6-3, 6-0.
Staunton secured his first singles win of the season as he topped Ritterman 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot. First-year
Michael Georgelis built on his strong fall season with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Pitaleff in the No. 4 spot.
In his collegiate debut, Reid secured his first singles win as a Statesman as he defeated Geller 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot. Ranadive added a win in the No. 6 spot as he swept Cheung 6-0, 6-0 to secure the win for Hobart.

Hobart will be back in action Saturday, March 7, when it hosts Farmingdale State and Drew for a nonconference doubleheader. First serve between the Statesmen and the Rams is set for 10 a.m. and will be followed by a matchup with the Rangers at 5 p.m. in Bristol Field House.
