GENEVA, N.Y. – The William Smith tennis team opened the Head Coach
Emme Levenson era with a win as the Herons swept SUNY Oneonta 7-0 this afternoon in a nonconference matchup in Bristol Field House. With the win, the Herons improve to 1-0 on the season, while the Red Dragons fall to 5-10 overall.
William Smith started strong in doubles play, winning all three matches to secure the doubles point. In the No. 1 spot, senior
Haley Levine and junior
Grace Magna defeated Haley Peck and Taylor Plue 6-4 to earn their third win as doubles partners this season. Seniors
Maddy Buck and
Marin Montagne added a win in the No. 2 spot as they defeated Dakota Jiminez and Ashley Glaviano 6-1.
In the No. 3 doubles spot, senior
Lizzy Legg and junior
Elizabeth Gardner defeated Trinity Lyons and Nina Fowler 6-4 to secure the doubles point for the Herons.
William Smith continued its dominance in singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. In the No. 1 spot, junior
Mae Kellersman defeated Peck 6-2, 6-1 to secure her fourth singles win of the season. Magna added a win in the No. 2 spot, defeating Plue 6-0, 6-1 to grab another point for the Herons.
Sophomore
Bethany Walker swept Jiminez 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot to secure her third singles win of the season, while first-year Kaityln Hardy added a 6-1, 6-1 win over Glaviano in the No. 4 spot for her fourth singles win of her rookie season.
In the No. 5 spot, sophomore
Mia Jacobs cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lyons, while first-year
Anna Nigro secured the first singles win of her collegiate career as she defeated Fowler 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) in the No. 6 spot.
