GENEVA, N.Y. – The William Smith tennis team cruised to its second straight sweep to open its spring season as it defeated Drew 7-0 this afternoon in a nonconference match in Bristol Field House. With the win, the Herons improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Rangers fall to 1-5 overall.
William Smith came out strong in doubles play, winning all three matches to secure the early doubles point. Senior
Haley Levine and junior
Grace Magna earned their second straight win in the No. 1 spot as they defeated Natalia Zamora and Madison Williams 6-1.
In the No. 2 doubles spot, junior
Mae Kellersman and sophomore
Bethany Walker added a 6-1 win over Riley Roesel and Nicole Kalorin, securing their first dual match doubles win of the season. Seniors
Maddy Buck and
Marin Montagne move to 2-0 in doubles play this season as they defeated Danielle Pettoni and Kapriana Payami 6-1 in the No. 3 spot to secure the doubles spot for the Herons.
William Smith continued on its momentum into singles play as it secured all six single points against Drew. Kellersman shined in the No. 1 spot, defeating Roesel 6-0, 6-1 for her second straight win in the No. 1 spot. Levine made her singles debut this afternoon, defeating Zamora 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot.
Magna impressed in the No. 3 spot as she defeated Kalorin 6-1, 6-3 to move to 2-0 in dual match singles play. Walker added a win in the No. 4 spot as she bested Williams 6-0, 6-2 to move to 2-0 in singles play this season.
In the No. 5 spot, first-year
Kaitlyn Hardy earned her second singles win of the season as she topped Pettoni 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore
Mia Jacobs closed out the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Payami in the No. 6 singles position. It was her second straight win to open the season.

William Smith will be back in action March 15-18 when it travels to Orlando, Florida, for three nonconference matches. The Herons will take on Bethel, Franklin and Marshall and Springfield over the three-day period.
