TROY, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team suffered a 73-68 Liberty League loss at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute tonight. The Statesmen were led by sophomore
Monty Nedd's second double-double of the season on a team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Hobart led by as many as 15 points in the first half and led as late as 62-61 with under three minutes remaining, but the league-leading Engineers rallied to defend their home court. RPI's Andrew Deppe made two clutch 3-pointers down the stretch, each one gave his team the lead. He finished with a game-high 19 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Deppe's first trey gave the home team a 64-62 lead with 2:22 left. Nedd tied the game on a layup about 30 seconds later, but Deppe splashed another three at the other end of the floor to give the Engineers the lead for good.
Hobart got within three twice in the final minute, but each time RPI made a pair of free throws to stretch its lead back to five.
