Nedd nets 26 at Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—Hobart sophomore Monty Nedd scored a game-high 26 points, but Union rallied from a second half deficit on its Senior Day to post a 75-68 Liberty League win this afternoon.
 
Nedd was 10-of-16 shooting and 6-of-8 at the line. He was just one point away from his career high. Sophomore Allen Mordi and senior Gabriel Bergeron joined Nedd in double digits with 10 points each. Junior Alex Moesch chipped in nine points and a game-high four steals.
 
Union also put three players in double figures. Tanner Tedesco led the Garnet Chargers with 21 points with Christian Dufort close behind at 19 points. Matthew Garside added 11 points. Will Yakoobian led Union to a 37-36 rebounding edge with a game-high 10 boards.
 
GAME RECAP
First Half: Hobart 34, Union 31
  • An early 16-2 run propelled Hobart to the biggest lead of the game for either team 17-6. Mordi and Moesch each scored five points during the run.
  • Union climbed back into the lead with 13 straight points, including a pair of threes by Dufort, to go up 25-21.
  • The Statesmen outscored their hosts 13-6 over the final five minutes of the half to carry a three-point edge into halftime.
  • Dufort led all scorers with 13 first half points. Mordi and Nedd paced Hobart with eight points each.
 
Second Half: Union 75, Hobart 68
  • The Statesmen led by as many as eight after halftime as late as 14:02 (50-42).
  • The Garnet Chargers trimmed Hobart's lead to one with seven straight points, including threes by Dufort and Yakoobian.
  • The game was tied at 53 midway through the second half when Union ripped off eight straight points for its biggest lead of the game.
  • Hobart pulled within four after a 3-pointer by Bergeron made it 64-60, but the Garnet Chargers pushed their lead back to eight and kept the Statesmen at arm's length down the stretch.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hobart committed a season-low seven turnovers and finished plus-four in turnover margin.
  • Moesch made his 147th career 3-pointer, taking sole possession of seventh place on Hobart's all-time list. He passed Colin Dougherty '19.
  • The Statesmen controlled the post, outscoring the Garnet Chargers 42-18 in the paint.
 
HEADED HOME
  • Hobart (11-10, 5-9) will head back to the friendly confines of Bristol Gym for its final four games of the regular season. The homestand begins Friday, Feb. 13 when St. Lawrence makes the trek south.
