PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—The Hobart squash team wrapped its 2024-25 season this weekend at the College Squash Association Divisional Team Championship. The Statesmen finished third in the Conroy Cup, posting a 2-2 record.
Adam Le and
Javier De La Vega led the way for Hobart, finishing the weekend 4-0.
Gabriel Garcia and
Caio Paiva were 3-1 on the weekend.
HAVERFORD MATCH
- Hobart opened the tournament on Friday against the Fords. The Statesmen were edged 6-3.
- Paiva rallied to win his match in the No. 1 spot, 9-11, 11-7, 11-2, 10-12, 11-7. It was his fifth win of the season.
- Le swept Henry Jiang, 11-4, 11-5, 11-6, at No. 2.
- De La Vega earned Hobart's third point with an 11-8, 11-6, 3-11, 11-7 victory in the No. 3 spot.
- Haverford had three sweeps and two 3-2 victories in their six points.
- It was the Ford's second win over Hobart on the season.
FORDHAM MATCH
- The Statesmen leveled their record on the weekend with a 6-3 win over Fordham on Friday afternoon.
- Le picked up his second sweep of the day, beating Jack Stanley, 11-6, 11-8, 11-4.
- De La Vega swept Adam Sakr, 11-4, 11-4, 11-8 in the No. 3 spot.
- Paiva dropped the first game, but rallied for a 7-11, 11-7, 11-8, 10-12 win at No. 1.
- Peter Vorbach topped Tyler Christensen, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9.
- Garcia also won 3-1 in the No. 5 spot.
VASSAR MATCH
- The Statesmen beat Vassar 5-4 in Saturday's first match. It was Hobart's first win over the Brewers after dropping the first two matches of the season.
- Le and Garcia had 3-0 sweeps at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively.
- Paiva held off Konstantinos Georgallides' comeback attempt, winning 11-7, 11-9, 6-11, 8-11, 11-7 in the No. 1 spot.
- De La Vega also needed five games to beat Kyle Benson, 11-6, 5-11, 11-2, 8-11, 11-8.
- Jayden Saldana beat Alexander Thorn, 14-12, 8-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-2 in the No. 8 spot.
CONNECTICUT COLLEGE MATCH
- The Camels won 5-4 with three 3-0 sweeps.
- Hobart also had three sweeps in the No. 3-5 spots in the lineup.
- De La Vega beat Noah Fish, 11-7, 11-4, 11-5 to finish his senior year with a team-high nine wins. It was the 35th victory of his career.
- Garcia swept Hayden Okurowski, 12-10, 11-7, 11-6, to earn his seventh win of the year.
- Le rallied from a 2-0 hole to beat Adam Elkaliuby, 8-11, 7-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-5. Le finished the year with a 4-1 record in the No. 2 spot.
- Peter Vorbach swept Thomas Overton, 11-7, 11-9, 11-4. It was his third win of the year.
