GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart lacrosse team delivered a dominant second half comeback to secure a 12-7 victory over Le Moyne on Tuesday at Urick Stadium. Trailing by four at the half, the Statesmen outscored the Dolphins 10-1 in the second half, scoring the final seven goals of the contest.
Senior
David Peterkin led the charge with five points, all in the second half, on a season-high three goals and two assists. Sophomore
Daniel Cano added two goals and an assist, while first-year
Gordon Bennett scored twice. First-year defenseman
Colman Craft led the defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. In the net, first-year
Michael Johnson made eight saves to earn the win. Senior
Seamus Schofield won 10-of-19 faceoffs with a team-high four ground balls while sophomore
James Stanton was 3-for-3 at the X.
Le Moyne goalie Lucas Winger made 20 saves. Conner Vaughn recorded a team-high three points on two goals and an assist. Alec Constable also scored twice.
GAME RECAP
First Quarter: Le Moyne 4, Hobart 2
- Le Moyne struck first with Nathan Hoban's goal at 10:30, his sixth of the season.
- Winger took advantage of Hobart's 10-man ride, scoring from 50-yards out. Constable followed with his first goal, making it 3-0 by the 9:10 mark.
- Jack Schleicher put the Statesmen on the board with his first goal of the season.
- Vaughn restored the visitors' three-goal lead.
- First-year Rufus Robertson added another for Hobart, ending the first quarter with Le Moyne up by two.
Second Quarter: Le Moyne 6, Hobart 2
- Vaughn and Constable scored the only goals of the second quarter, giving the Dolphins a 6-2 halftime lead.
Third Quarter: Le Moyne 7, Hobart 6
- Hobart charged out of the gate to start the second half, scoring three goals in less than three minutes.
- Craft started the comeback in the defensive end of the field, forcing a turnover, scooping up the loose ball and charging into the offensive zone. He fed Peterkin, who scored to make it 6-3 just over two minutes into the half.
- Alex Begina's man-up goal, assisted by Cano, came just over a minute later.
- Cano then found the back of the net with an assist from sophomore Bryce Johnson to make it 6-5.
- Le Moyne's Thomas Berry temporarily stemmed the tide, but Hobart's Johnny Harding answered, leaving the Dolphins a tenuous one-goal lead entering the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter: Hobart 12, Le Moyne 7
- The fourth quarter was all Hobart, as the Statesmen scored six unanswered goals.
- Cano kicked off the final quarter with his 10th of the season, tying the game.
- DiTomasso, assisted by Peterkin, gave Hobart the lead 35 seconds later.
- Peterkin also set up a goal by Bennett and then scored one of his own to pad Hobart's lead 10-7.
- Bennett and Peterkin added two more insurance goals to complete the night's scoring.
GAME NOTES
- The Statesmen outshot the Dolphins 49-28.
- Hobart committed a season-low 12 turnovers, while Le Moyne turned the ball over 20 times.
- Craft raised his team-leading caused turnover total to 23. He's tied for third on the Statesmen's single season list, two shy of the record set by Reid Rosello in 2013.
- Craft also recorded his first assist this season.
