ORLANDO, Fla. – The Hobart tennis team added two nonconference wins to its resume as it defeated St. Norbert 7-0 and Coe 4-3 this afternoon to open its spring break trip. With the wins, the Statesmen improve to 5-0 on the season.
Hobart opened its first match of the day with a dominant showing in doubles play, winning all three matches to secure the doubles point. In the No. 1 spot, seniors
Nick Fischer and
Aidan Staunton defeated Brett Daniels and Charles Keller 6-4 to move to 4-0 on the season.
In the No. 2 doubles spot, junior
Achilleas Kousaridis and first-year Reid Everett continued to impress, defeating Ryan Garland and Jackson Harpt 6-2 to move to 4-0 on the season. Sophomore
Marco Olmos and senior
Tarang Malhotra added a 6-1 over Owen McDonough and Nolan Pearson in the No. 3 spot to secure the doubles point.
The Statesmen continued to shine in singles play, winning all six singles points against the Green Knights. In the No. 1 spot, first-year
Michael Georgelis defeated Brett Daniels 6-1, 6-1 to move to 4-0 in dual match singles play. Senior
Jose Martinez Barelles added a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 win over Garland in the No. 2 spot to move to 2-0 on the season.
First-year
Tejus Ranadive moved to 3-0 on the season as he defeated Keller 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot. Malhotra added a 6-2, 6-2 win over Harpt in the No. 4 spot for his second straight win of the season. In the No. 5 spot, Olmos added a 6-2, 6-0 win over Nolan Pearson, while first-year
Tyler Snyder chipped in a 6-2, 6-1 win over Seth Kogutkiewicz in the No. 6 spot.
In the second match of the day, Hobart battled through doubles play, winning two of three matches to secure the doubles point. Fischer and Staunton defeated Jumpei Kasai and Bryton Short 6-4 in the No. 1 spot to remain undefeated, while Reid and Kousaridis defeated Daniel Rohlman and Anthony Schulte 6-4 in the No. 2 spot.
The nonconference battle continued through singles play as the Statesmen defeated the Hawks in three singles matches to secure the win. Fischer continued to shine in singles play, defeating Schulte 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 in the No. 1 spot.
Staunton added a win in the No. 3 spot, defeating Short 7-5, 7-5 to move to 3-0 on the season. Georgelis closed out the win with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Rohlman in the No. 4 spot. He moves to 5-0 in dual match singles play to open his rookie season.
