ORLANDO, Fla. – The Hobart tennis team dropped a nonconference matchup to No. 37 Franklin and Marshall 7-0 this afternoon at the UTSA National Campus. With the loss, the Statesmen fall to 5-1 on the season, while the Diplomats move to 3-2 overall.
The battle began in doubles play as Franklin and Marshall edged Hobart, winning two of three matches to secure the doubles point. The Statesmen's lone win came at the No. 2 spot as junior
Achilleas Kousaridis and first-year
Everett Reid defeated Nate Arnold and Samuel Donnelly 6-3. The duo is now 6-0 in the No. 2 spot this season.
In the No. 3 spot, first-year
Tejus Ranadive and senior
Jose Martinez Barelles pushed Soren Rudin-Aulenback and Gonzalo Gentou but fell in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4) to secure the doubles point for the Diplomats.
Hobart continued to fight in singles play but fell in all six matches, handing Franklin and Marshall the 7-0 win. Senior
Nick Fischer battled in the No. 1 spot but ultimately fell to Luke Brodsky 6-4, 6-3. With the loss, Fischer is now 3-1 in dual match play this season.
Kousaridis also impressed in singles play this afternoon but dropped a 6-4, 7-5 (7-5) decision to Zac Ashtiani in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 3 singles position, senior
Aidan Staunton forced Donnelly to a tiebreaker but ultimately fell 6-3, 4-6, 11-9.
