The William Smith tennis team will be back in action Wednesday, March 25, when it continues conference play with a matchup against Liberty League foe, Ithaca. First serve between the Herons and the Bombers is set for 4 p.m. in Bristol Field House.
ABOUT THE HERONS:
- William Smith enters the week with a 3-4 overall record with a 0-1 mark in Liberty League play after falling 5-2 to No. 40 Skidmore on Saturday.
- Junior Mae Kellersman, senior Haley Levine and sophomore Bethany Walker were named to the Liberty League weekly honor roll after three strong performances last week.
- In singles play, junior Grace Magna leads the Herons with a 4-2 record in dual matches, primarily in the No. 3 spot. Sophomore Mia Jacobs adds a 4-3 record in dual match singles play, primarily playing at No. 5 spot. Jacobs is coming off a 6-1, 6-3 win over Skidmore's Mia Rosenberg in the No. 5 on Saturday.
- Kellersman is 3-4 at No. 1 singles, while Levine is 3-3 in the No. 2 spot.
- Magna and Levine lead William Smith in doubles play and are 4-3 in the No. 1 spot.
- Kellersman and Walker are 4-2 in No. 2 doubles and are coming off a 6-3 win over Skidmore's Ellie Lake and Maggie English on Saturday.
ABOUT THE BOMBERS:
- Ithaca comes to Geneva with a 3-4 overall record and is coming off a 4-1 loss to Binghamton on Saturday, March 7.
- Alys Pop leads the Bombers in singles play with a 4-2 record at No. 1. Madeleine Sutro adds a 3-4 overall record, including a 2-1 mark at No. 2.
- In doubles play, Pop and Sabrina Cheung have a team-leading 3-0 record in the No. 1 spot. Â
- Sutro and Ava Lapetina-Casell are 1-3 in doubles play, primarily playing in the No. 2 spot.
SERIES SNAPSHOT:
- Wednesday will be the 42nd meeting between William Smith and Ithaca. The Herons hold a 22-19 edge in the series, including an 11-10 advantage in Geneva.
- Last time they met, the Bombers defeated the Herons 6-1 on April 27, 2025, in Ithaca. Walker secured the lone point for William Smith as she defeated Eliana Chelnick 6-1, 7-6 in the No. 6 spot.
