GENEVA, N.Y. – The Hobart tennis team earned its first conference victory of the season as it cruised to a 7-0 sweep of Bard this morning in Bristol Field House. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 7-3 on the season and 1-2 in conference play, while the Raptors fall to 4-4 overall and 0-3 in the Liberty League.
Hobart's dominance began in doubles play as it won all three matches 6-0. In the No. 1 spot, seniors Nick Fischer and Aidan Staunton bounced back with a 6-0 win over Nicholas Oh and Blake Kendall. With the win, the duo improved to 7-3 on the season.
Junior Achilleas Kousaridis and first-year Everett Reid added a 6-0 win in the No. 2 spot to improve to 8-2 in the No. 2 spot. Senior Jose Martinez Barelles and first-year Tejus Ranadive also added a 6-0 win in the No. 3 spot as they defeated Ciaran Chamberlain and Faisal Jones to secure the doubles point. The Statesmen duo improved to 6-3 on the season with the win.
Hobart continued to impress in singles play as it swept all six matches to secure the conference victory. Staunton started with a win in the No. 1 spot as he defeated Oh 6-3, 6-1. He is now 6-2 on the season. Kousaridis chipped in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Thanasis Kostikas in the No. 2 spot.
In the No. 3 spot, first-year Michael Georgelis bounced back with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Jones to secure his seventh singles win of the season. Ranadive added a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kendall in the No. 4 spot and is now 7-1 in his rookie season.
Senior Tarang Malhotra defeated Peter Trimble 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 5 spot. Malhotra is now 3-0 in dual match play this season. Hobart rounded out the sweep in the No. 6 spot as first-year Tyler Snyder defeated Chamberlain 6-1, 6-0 to move to 3-0 on the season.
