GENEVA, N.Y. – The Hobart tennis team dropped a non-conference matchup to No. 22 NYU this afternoon at the HWS Tennis Center. With the loss, the Statesmen fall to 7-4 overall, while the Violets improve to 7-1 overall.
Hobart came out strong in doubles play, winning all three matches to secure the early doubles point. In the No. 1 spot, seniors Nick Fischer and Aidan Staunton put on an impressive performance, defeating Bryan Hui and Niklas Von Hellens 6-3. With the win, the Hobart duo improved to 8-3 on the season.
Junior Achilleas Kousaridis and first-year Everett Reid added a 6-1 win over Jeh-Lei Fan and Shido Ito in the No. 2 spot and are now 9-2 on the season. Senior Jose Martinez Barelles and first-year Tejus Ranadive added a 6-4 win over Boris Slesarev and Louis Frowein in the No. 3 spot to secure the doubles point for the Statesmen. Martinez Barelles and Ranadive sit at 7-3 in dual match doubles play this season.
NYU responded well in doubles play, defeating Hobart in five of six matches to secure the non-conference win. The Statesmen's lone win came in the No. 2 spot as Staunton defeated Hui 4-6. 6-4, 7-5 to move to 7-2 on the season.
Fischer put up a fight in the No. 1 spot, but fell to Von Hellens 2-6, 6-4, 3-6. First-year Michael Georgelis also battled in the No. 4 spot, but fell to Ito 2-6, 6-4, 6-7. With the losses, Fischer falls to 5-3 on the season, while Georgelis falls to 6-4 in his rookie season.

Hobart will be back in action Wednesday, April 1, when it travels to Rochester for a non-conference match. Action between the Statesmen and the Yellowjackets is set for 4 p.m.
