GENEVA, N.Y. – The William Smith tennis team cruised to a 7-0 sweep of Bard this afternoon in Bristol Field House. With the win, the Herons improve to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Raptors fall to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in the Liberty League.
William Smith came out strong in doubles play, sweeping all three matches to secure the early doubles point. Senior Haley Levine and junior Grace Magna opened doubles play with a 6-0 win over Paige Houghton and Natalie Lagunes in the No. 1 spot. Levine and Magna move to 6-3 with the win.
In the No. 2 spot, junior Mae Kellersman and sophomore Bethany Walker defeated Jesse Radzik and Patricia Santos 6-0 to move to 6-2 on the season. Senior Marin Montagne and sophomore Mia Jacobs added a 6-1 win over Catherine Chapel and Sienna Roveda in the No. 3 spot to secure the doubles point.
The Herons continued to impress in singles play, sweeping all six matches to secure the conference win. Kellersman defeated Houghton 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot, while Levine chipped in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lagunes in the No. 2 spot. Levine improved to 5-3 with the win.
In the No. 3 spot, Magna secured a 6-1, 6-0 win over Chapel to improve to 6-2 on the season. Walker added a 6-0, 6-0 win over Santos in the No. 4 spot and now has four wins on the season.
First-year Kaitlyn Hardy downed Radzik 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 spot, while senior Maddy Buck defeated Roveda 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 spot. Hardy improves to 5-3 on the season, while Buck remains undefeated in dual match play and moves to 2-0 on the season.
