#24 Violets sweep Herons 7-0

GENEVA, N.Y. – The William Smith tennis team concluded the week with a 7-0 loss to No. 24 NYU this morning in a non-conference match in Bristol Field House. With the loss, the Herons fall to 5-5 overall, while the Violets improve to 7-3 on the season.

NYU took control of the match in doubles play, defeating William Smith in all three matches to secure the doubles point. Senior Marin Montagne and sophomore Mia Jacobs put up a fight in the No. 3 spot, but fell to Norah Staunton and Sophia Wright, 6-4. With the loss, Montagne and Jacobs fall to 3-2 on the season.

The Violets carried their momentum into singles play, defeating the Herons in all six matches to secure the non-conference win. Junior Mae Kellersman battled in the No. 1 spot but fell to Visnja Gusavac 6-4, 6-3. Kellersman is now 4-6 in the No. 1 spot this season.

Senior Haley Levine took on Victoria Wang in the No. 2 spot, but ultimately fell 6-2, 6-2 to NYU's No. 2. Levine is now 5-4 on the season. Sophomore Bethany Walker put up a fight in the No. 4 spot, falling to Noelle Faber 6-0, 6-3. With the loss, Walker is now 4-5 on the season.

William Smith will be back in action Thursday, April 2, when it travels to Rochester for a non-conference match. Action between the Herons and the Yellowjackets is set for 4 p.m.
