ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The University of Rochester men's tennis team rallied to defeat Hobart 5-2 this afternoon in a non-conference matchup in Goergen Athletic Center. With the loss, the Statesmen fall to 7-5 overall, while the Yellowjackets improve to 6-8 on the season.
Hobart opened the non-conference battle with an impressive performance in doubles play, winning two of three matches to secure the doubles point against Rochester. In the No. 1 spot, seniors Nick Fischer and Aidan Staunton defeated Joshua Chu and Aiden Swartz 6-2 to move to 9-3 on the season.
Junior Achilleas Kousaridis and first-year Everett Reid added a 6-3 win over Ethan Samora and Kavin Shukla in the No. 2 spot to help secure the doubles point. Kousaridis and Reid improved to 10-2 on the season with the win.
The Statesmen struggled to put it together in singles play, securing only one win out of six matches, handing the Yellowjackets a 5-2 win in the non-conference battle. Hobart's lone singles win came in the No. 3 spot as first-year Michael Georgelis rallied to defeat Shukla 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 6-0. It was Georgelis' eighth win of his rookie season.
Kousaridis also put up a fight in the No. 4 spot but dropped a thrilling matchup to Alan Wang 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 2-6. Reid battled Swartz in the No. 5 spot but ultimately fell 3-6, 6-7 (3-7) to the Yellowjackets. Swartz's win over Reid was the match-clinching win for Rochester.

Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, April 11, when it travels to Schenectady, New York, for a Liberty League matchup with Union. Action between the Statesmen and the Garnet Chargers is set for 10 a.m.
