Hobart ranked #1 ahead of NCAA tournament

The Hobart hockey team remained the unanimous No. 1 team in the nation in the USCHO.com poll which was released this afternoon. This is the 47th consecutive poll that the Statesmen have been ranked No. 1.
 
The Statesmen have been No. 1 in the polls for 833 days. During their stay at No. 1, the Statesmen have been the unanimous No. 1 team 29 times. Since earning top spot for the first time in program history on Nov. 14, 2022, Hobart has been ranked in the No. 1 in 61 of the 71 polls.
 
The Statesmen (28-0-0) were also No. 1 in the NCAA Power Index and earned one of the two first-round byes in the NCAA tournament, which starts on Saturday, March 14. The de facto No. 1 seed, Hobart will begin its pursuit of a fourth-straight national championship on Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m. Hobart will take on the winner of the first round game between St. Norbert and University of New England.
 
Hobart enters the week first in the nation in winning percentage (1.000), scoring offense (5.39), scoring defense (0.89), scoring margin (+4.50), goals (151), assists (259), points (410) and power-play percentage (.345). The Statesmen are fourth in the nation in penalty-killing percentage (.345).
 
Senior goalie Damon Beaver, who picked up his seventh shutout of the season in Saturday's SUNYAC Championship game, is first in the nation in GAA (0.89), save percentage (.956) and shutouts. He was named the SUNYAC tournament's most valuable player after notching shutouts against Cortland and Oswego.
 
The Green Knights (21-6-2) are ranked second in the USCHO poll and eighth in the NPI rankings. They earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after winning the NCHA. The Nor'easters are tied for seventh in the poll and are ninth in the NPI  rankings. UNE (21-6-0) earned an at-large bid to the tournament after losing to Endicott in the Conference of New England Championship game.
