SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Hobart tennis team dropped a conference matchup on the road to Union 4-3 this afternoon. With the loss, the Statesmen fall to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while the Garnet Chargers improve to 8-7 on the season with a 2-2 mark in the Liberty League.
The conference battle began in doubles play as Union secured the doubles point after winning two of three matches against Hobart. The lone Statesmen win came in the No. 2 spot as junior Achilleas Kousaridis and first-year Everett Reid defeated Daniel Saxe and Vivaan Gupta 6-2. With the win, the duo improved to a team-leading 11-2 record on the season.
Hobart fought back in singles action, winning three of six matches but it wasn't enough as Union secured the conference matchup with four points. Kousaridis continued on his momentum from doubles play and defeated Saxe 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot. With the win, he improved to 5-6 on the season.
First-year Tejus Ranadive added a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) win over Simon Philip in the No. 5 spot, moving to 8-3 in his rookie season. Senior Nick Fischer secured the final point for the Statesmen as he defeated Solen Bellemare 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in the No. 1 spot, improving to 6-4 on the season.
Jesus Alberto clinched the match for the Garnet Chargers as he defeated senior Aidan Staunton 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. With the loss, Staunton falls to 7-4 in dual match play this season.
