Statesmen bounce back with 5-2 win over Saints

CANTON, N.Y. – The Hobart tennis team bounced back with a 5-2 win over Liberty League foe, St. Lawrence, this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 8-6 overall with a 2-3 mark in conference play, while the Saints fall to 4-10 on the season with a 1-5 record in the Liberty League.

The crucial conference battle began in doubles play as Hobart won two of three matches to secure the doubles point. Junior Achilleas Kousaridis and first-year Everett Reid continued to impress as they defeated Aidan Baracao and Willem Naughton 6-4 in the No. 2 spot. With the win, the duo improved to 12-2 on the season.

Seniors Nick Fischer and Aidan Staunton clinched the doubles point in the No. 1 spot as they earned a thrilling 7-6 (7-5) win over Jake David and Josh David. Fischer and Staunton are now 10-4 on the season.

The Statesmen continued to impress in singles play, winning four out of six matches to secure the crucial conference win. First-year Tejus Ranadive set the tone with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ryan Tingley in the No. 5 spot. With the win, Ranadive is now 9-3 in his rookie season. Classmate Michael Georgelis added a 6-2, 6-4 win over Armaan Walia in the No. 3 spot. Georgelis is now 9-5 in dual match play this season.

Staunton added a thrilling 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 1-0 (10-1) win over Jake David in the No. 2 spot. He is now 8-4 on the season. Fischer clinched the match for Hobart as he defeated Josh David 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot. With the win, Fischer improved to 7-4 on the season.

"Today was a good win in a close match," said Head Coach Tim Riskie. "We've been in tight spots a lot this year and have lost, so it was good to win in those moments today."

Hobart will be back in action Saturday, April 18, when it takes on RPI in a crucial Liberty League matchup. First serve between the Statesmen and the Engineers is set for 10 a.m. at HWS Tennis Center.
