Statesmen edged by Engineers 4-3

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Hobart tennis team dropped a thrilling conference matchup to Liberty League foe, RPI, 4-3 this afternoon. With the loss, the Statesmen fall to 8-7 on the season and 2-4 in conference play, while the Engineers improve to 3-10 overall with a 3-3 mark in the Liberty League.

RPI secured the doubles point after defeating Hobart in two of three matches. The Statesmen's lone win came in the No. 3 spot as first-year's Michael Georgelis and Tejus Ranadive earned a victory by default as RPI didn't have enough players to form a third doubles pair.

Junior Achilleas Kousaridis and first-year Everett Reid put up a fight in the No. 2 spot but dropped a 6-4 decision to Gustave Viennet and Debarshi Sen. With the loss, the Hobart duo falls to 12-3 on the season.

The Engineers secured the conference win in doubles play, winning three of six matches to clinch the 4-3 win. Reid earned a win by default in the No. 6 position for the Statesmen, improving to 3-6 on the season.

Georgelis secured a win in the No. 3 spot as he defeated Viennet 6-1, 6-3 to improve to 10-5 on the season. Kousaridis added a 6-1, 6-4 win over Sen Debarshi in the No. 4 spot to move to 6-7 on the season. Ranadive put up a fight in the No. 5 spot but ultimately fell to Felix Puyplat 6-3, 3-6, 5-7.
