MIDDLETOWN, Conn.—The seventh-ranked William Smith lacrosse team was edged by second-ranked Wesleyan 10-6 in a hard fought non-conference contest at Smith Field this afternoon.

Casey Fiore played all 60 minutes in goal and made eight saves.
Mya Waryas scored five goals in the victory for the Cardinals. Bridget Horst also had a multi-goal game. Lindsey Diomede won a game-high four draws, three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Izzy Weintraub played all 60 minutes in goal and made seven saves.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- An evenly played game, Wesleyan had a 20-18 edge in shots. The Cardinals also had an advantage in ground balls (22-19) and draw controls (10-8).
- William Smith was 16-for-18 on its clear attempts, and Wesleyan was 18-for-19 on its clear attempts.
FIRST QUARTER
- Horst opened the scoring just over a minute into the game. She dunked home a feed from Addie Cummings for her 11th goal of the season.
- Junior Kira Fulton tied the game three minutes later. Her 17th goal of the season was on a free position attempt.
- Wesleyan scored the next two goals to take a 3-1 lead with 6:57 left in the opening frame. Maddie Shoemaker scored on a free-position attempt, and Waryas' goal was set up by Cummings.
- Rund answered with her 24th tally of the season, making it 3-2 with 4:57 remaining in the first quarter.
- Horst made it a two-goal game with 2:26 remaining in the stanza. It was a woman-up goal and started a five-goal run for the Cardinals.
SECOND QUARTER
- Wesleyan took control of the game, scoring all four goals in the second quarter.
- Dylan Green made it 5-2 just over three minutes into the frame. Her 19th goal of the season was an unassisted goal.
- Waryas scored the next three goals to make it 8-2 after 30 minutes. Two of the tallies were unassisted and the third was set up by Ellie Priesing.
- Wesleyan's defense smothered the Herons in the second quarter, allowing just one shot that was blocked during the quarter.
THIRD QUARTER
- The Herons rebounded, outscoring Wesleyan 2-1 in the third stanza.
- First-year Cat Colvin snapped the Cardinals' run with her 21st goal of the season. It came on a free position shot from the right side.
- Delaney Cassidy won the ensuing draw control, and Grottenthaler scored one minute later to bring the Herons within four goals. Grottenthaler's 26th goal of the season was unassisted.
- Cummings put her name in the scoring column with 7:15 left in the third quarter. Her 29th goal of the season was assisted by Dylan Green.
- William Smith had chances to add a goal late in the third quarter, but Weintraub made a pair of highlight reel saves on shots from Cassidy and Rund. Fulton also fired a shot off of the goal post.
FOURTH QUARTER
- The Herons made it 9-5 with 8:58 remaining in regulation, when Colvin collected her 22nd goal of the year. Falco was credited with an assist on the goal.
- Waryas sealed the victory for Wesleyan with her fifth goal of the game. Her free position goal was her 18th of the season.
- Falco rounded out the scoring with her 18th goal of the year. It came on a free position attempt.
STREAKING
- Fulton extended her points streak to 28 games. She has recorded at least one point in 32 of her last 33 games.

William Smith will be back in action on Friday, April 17, when it welcomes Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to Urick Stadium. The Liberty League contest is set to begin at 4 p.m.
