Herons host 3 matches this week

The William Smith tennis team will be back in action at the HWS Tennis Center this weekend, April 16-19, with matches against Nazareth, RPI, and Vassar. The Herons will host the Golden Flyers on Thursday at 4 p.m., the Engineers on Saturday at 10 a.m. and the Brewers on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Saturday's match against RPI will be William Smith's Senior Day. The Herons will hold a brief ceremony prior to first serve to honor the class of 2026.

ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • William Smith enters the weekend with a 6-8 overall record and 3-3 mark in Liberty League play after a loss to St. Lawrence on Sunday.
  • In singles play, senior Haley Levine leads the Herons with a 7-6 dual match record, primarily playing in the No. 2 spot. Junior Grace Magna is also 7-6 in dual matches, playing in the No. 3 spot.
  • Junior Mae Kellersman and sophomore Bethany Walker lead William Smith in doubles play with a 7-6 record in the No. 2 spot. Levine and Magna are 6-8 in the No. 1 position for the Herons.
  • Seniors Marin Montagne and Maddy Buck are 4-3 in the No. 3 doubles spot.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN FLYERS:
  • Nazareth brings an 8-6 overall record to Geneva Thursday.
  • Victoria Cioni leads the Golden Flyers in singles with an 10-4 record at No. 4. Catherine Zak is 7-5 in the No. 1 spot.
  • In doubles play, Zak and Kenna Ellis hold an 8-5 record in the No.1 spot. Cioni and Anna Spencer are also 8-5 in dual matches, playing in the No. 2 spot.
  • Thursday marks the 28th meeting between William Smith and Nazareth. The Herons hold a 26-1 edge in the series, most recently earning a 7-0 victory on April 10, 2025. William Smith has won 22 straight against Nazareth.
ABOUT THE ENGINEERS:
  • RPI enters the weekend with a 7-6 overall record and is 5-1 in conference play. The Engineers are facing off against Union on Wednesday before heading to Geneva this weekend.
  • Victoria Sarabosing leads the team in singles play with a 7-4 record, primarily playing in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots. Gauri Muliyil is 6-6 in dual match play, including a 4-4 record in the No. 2 spot.
  • Muliyil and Juliette Ceas have a team-leading 7-1 record in doubles play and are 7-0 in the No. 3 spot. Nicole Ridenour and Anushka Jaiswal are 5-5 at No. 1.
  • Saturday marks the 21st meeting between William Smith and RPI. The Herons lead the series 13-7 but have lost the past four matchups with the Engineers. Last time they met, RPI defeated William Smith 6-1 on April 13, 2025.
ABOUT THE BREWERS:
  • Vassar enters the weekend with a 9-5 overall record, including a 5-0 record in conference play. The Brewers are currently ranked No. 48 in the ITA national rankings.
  • In singles play, Ananya Krishnan leads the team with a 10-3 record, playing in both the No.3 and No. 4 spots. Sieun Lee is 8-2 in dual matches and is 7-2 in the No. 3 spot.
  • In doubles play, Krishnan and Maddie Kirby lead the Brewers from the No. 2 spot with an 8-3 record. Lee and Sara Lippin add a 5-0 record from the No. 3 spot.
  • Sunday marks the 19th matchup between William Smith and Vassar. Vassar remains undefeated in the series, including a 7-0 win on March 22, 2025.
