ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The Hobart baseball team suffered back-to-back losses for the first time in over a month, dropping both games of a doubleheader at Rochester Institute of Technology, 8–5 and 13–7, this afternoon.
In Game 1, Hobart's late efforts included four runs in the last two innings, but it wasn't enough to overcome RIT's early lead, which was bolstered by four home runs. The Tigers deciding sequence came in the fifth inning when an error allowed Trent Rapp to reach base, followed by Jarin Moses two-run homer, extending the Tigers' lead to 6–1.
Hobart opened the eighth inning with first-year
Jack O'Neil and junior
Sean Garvin drawing walks. Senior
Will Jones' groundout scored O'Neil and sophomore
Aidan Davenport's groundout brought home Garvin. In the ninth, junior
Cole Conte and senior
Christian Petry singled, followed by O'Neil's two-run double, narrowing the gap. However, the rally fell short with the tying run on deck.
In Game 2, RIT seized control in the sixth inning, behind Moses' grand slam that gave the home team a 9-2 lead. The Statesmen managed a four-run eighth inning but were unable to overcome RIT's lead.
