"It was great to see us come off the bus ready to go," said Hobart Head Coach
Brad Cook. "Teck set the tone in the top of the first. Christian set the tone in the bottom with a lead off double and we were off. We just kept adding to it. Garvin with the big three-run home run that took the wind out of their sail. We had a quiet confidence to us today. I could feel it during the pregame."
Hobart (24-9, 8-3 Liberty League) put runs on the board in each of the first four innings while shutting down the Saints. After plating single runs in the first and second, the Statesmen broke through for three in the third. Hobart broke the game wide open with a decisive seven-run rally in the fourth inning. Garvin delivered the big blow with a three-run homer. An RBI single by
Jack O'Neil and a two-run double by
Jack Byrnes further expanded the margin. Petry capped the inning with an RBI single, giving Hobart a 12-0 lead.
St. Lawrence (12-14, 6-8) clawed back three runs across the fifth and sixth, but first-year
Alex Spezzano pitched a scoreless seventh for the Statesmen and senior
Will Jones' sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning gave Hobart a 10-run victory.
Looking ahead, the Statesmen will host Ithaca (16-12, 8-7) at 4 p.m. Friday, April 24 at McDonough Park. Prior to the start of the game, Hobart will honor the program's 14 seniors.
