Engineers down Herons 7-0

GENEVA, N.Y. – The William Smith tennis team took on Liberty League foe, RPI, this morning on its Senior Day, ultimately falling to the Engineers, 7-0. With the loss, the Herons fall to 7-9 on the season and 3-4 in conference play, while RPI improves to 9-6 overall and 7-1 in the Liberty League.

The Engineers took control in doubles play, defeating the Herons in all three matches to secure the doubles point. Junior Mae Kellersman and sophomore Bethany Walker put up in a fight in the No. 2 spot but ultimately fell 6-3 to Victoria Sarabosing and Kayla Wheeler. With the loss, the duo falls to 8-7 on the season.

RPI continued to roll in singles play, winning all six matches to secure the conference win. Sophomore Mia Jacobs battled in the No. 5 spot but fell in a thrilling third set tiebreaker to Juliette Ceas 6-1, 4-6, 0-1 (3-10). With the loss, Jacobs falls to 7-8 on the season.

First-year Katie Hardy also put up a fight in the No. 6 spot but Neha Saraswatula rallied to defeat Hardy 6-4, 2-6, 2-6. Senior Haley Levine impressed in the No. 1 spot but fell to Nicole Ridenour 6-3, 6-4. With the loss, Levine falls to 8-7 on the season.

William Smith will be back in action tomorrow as it welcomes No. 44 Vassar to Geneva for a Liberty League matchup. First serve between the Herons and Brewers is set for 2 p.m. in Bristol Field House.
