Herons set for Liberty League Championships this weekend

The William Smith tennis team will travel to Ithaca, New York, this weekend to compete in the 2026 Liberty League Tournament. The sixth-seeded Herons will take on third-seeded St. Lawrence on Friday at 5 p.m. in the quarterfinal round with the winner advancing to Saturday's semifinals. The tournament will be hosted at Cornell's Reis Tennis Center.

William Smith finished the regular season with an 8-10 overall record, including a 3-5 mark in league play, clinching a spot in the Liberty League Tournament for the first time since 2019. The Herons are coming off a 7-0 non-conference victory over SUNY Geneseo last weekend.

The Saints (13-4, 6-2) are coming off a 4-3 win over Union to close out their regular season. The last meeting between the Saints and the Herons saw St. Lawrence claim a 7-0 victory on April 12.

Top-seeded Vassar (13-5, 8-0) will take on the winner of fourth-seeded Skidmore (5-13, 5-3) and fifth-seeded Union (6-11, 4-4). The Thoroughbreds will face the Garnet Chargers on Friday at 2:15 p.m. for a spot in the semifinals. Second-seeded RPI (10-6, 8-1) awaits the winner of the Herons and the Saints.

ABOUT THE HERONS
  • Junior Mae Kellersman primarily plays in the No. 1 singles spot and has a 7-11 record in dual matches.
  • Senior Haley Levine posts a 9-8 record in dual matches, including a 7-6 record from the No. 2 spot. Junior Grace Magna is also 9-8 in singles play, 8-8 at No. 3.
  • First-year Katie Hardy has had an impressive rookie season, earning an 8-9 mark in dual matches.
  • Kellersman and sophomore Bethany Walker lead the team with a 9-8 record in dual match doubles play this season, primarily from the No. 2 spot.
  • Levine and Magna are 8-10 at No. 1 doubles.
  • Seniors Marin Montagne and Maddy Buck are 6-5 in dual match doubles play with a 5-5 mark in the No. 3 spot.

  • Molly Jespersen leads the team from the No. 2 singles spot with a 10-1 record in dual matches.
  • Angelica Aksdal-Jansen follows close behind with a 9-2 record from the No. 1 singles spot in dual matches.
  • The pairing of Jespersen and Aksdal-Jansen lead the team in doubles play with an 8-4 record in dual matches, all from the No. 1 spot.
  • Ariane Karera and Elisa Iuri hold an 8-3 record from the No. 2 spot.
